January 2, 2018

Welcome to 2018! Here’s wishing our members, guests and friends a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. We look forward to sharing it with you!

We have a holiday basketful of thank yous:

For New Years Eve: Bruce and Pat for organizing and hosting a very successful New Year’s Eve gathering. Thanks for the great nibblies, the good music and the fun conversation–and for making it happen.

For a Record-Breaking Levee: Thanks to Carolyn and Charlie for all the behind the scenes preparation and work, and for the lovely layout in the great room. Thanks to Moosemilk Master Steve for the brew, to Maureen and Jude for serving, to Adele for working the treats table, to Terry for her work in the kitchen, to organize and plate the treats so beautifully (and did it so there was almost no cleanup after). Thanks to Bert, Glenn and Norma Lee for greeting guests at the door. Thanks to the Executive members who came and stood in line for so long. Thanks to Judith for the lovely piano playing, on the lovely piano you had tuned for us, and thanks to Gus for the impromptu and delightful performance of your own levee song. We liked the part about the Haviland Club best! Thanks to the many who brought sweets, without whom the party would not have been the same. Based on bar sales, crowd size, and an estimation at the door, this year’s levee was a smashing success! In addition, the Club added eight new member applicants over the weekend!

And for Making The Club Soooo Beautiful: Okay, we thanked you already, but the decorations in the Club were so much a part of the holiday season that we want to do it again. We were proud to show the Club off to strangers, thanks to Jill and Sharon, Jo, Norma Lee and Terry for their lovely design work. And once again thanks to Elizabeth Ghiz of Elizabeth’s Garden Florist, www.peiflowers.com, for generously decorating the mantles in the great room.

And to All Who Came Out: It is so important, and so much appreciated, when someone plans and organizes and works to put on an event, that members come out to enjoy it. Thank you so much for being a part of it al!

Coming Activities:

Friday, January 5, $5 Friday with Giovanni! Bar opens at 4, draws and dinner at 6.

This Friday, our new friend Giovanni is hosting a $5 Friday of real Italian spaghetti and meatballs. This is going to be a fun, delightful treat, and of course dinner for the impossibly low price of $5! We also believe many of our new members and new member applicants will be in attendance, so come meet them. Could we ask, please, that you let us know if you’re planning to dine with us Friday? Just reply with this email link. We’d like to let Giovanni know so he can prepare.

Coffee Club is back, Thursday Morning 10:00 to 11:30

Fire’s lit, treats are out, coffee’s a buck and conversation is both interesting and free, including some further information on the search for Esther Lowden. We’d love to see you there.

Craft Club Restarts Next Week, January 10, 7 PM

People touring the Club during the levee were captivated by the quilt on display (thanks Christine!). Back to work next week to finish them up!
