Sunday February 1: The Haviland House of Blues Open Jam

3 PM –6 PM

Back by popular demand is The Haviland House of Blues Open Jam. The host band will be The John Cain band consisting of John Cain, Guitar & Vocals, Neil Knudson, Trumpet, Vocals& Guitar, Davey G on Bass and Walter Riley on Drums. This electrifying group will keep you moving from beat 1. Playing the best R&B tunes with clever arrangements-and soul dripping solos. Some of last weeks guests were Amanda Jackson, Josh Underhay, Spenser Soloduka and his band and several other famous Island musicians. Everyone is encouraged to come enjoy a fun afternoon of incredible music, great people and some homemade chilli.

Admission is by donation. The band is paid by your generous support.

Monday February 2: Research on Tap with Dr. John McIntyre, 7 PM

Public discussion, debate, and ideas presented by researchers from the UPEI. Dr. John McIntyre, an associate professor in the department of English, will lead a discussion entitled: Beyond Flanders Fields: Representing the Great War in Literature and Culture.” For full schedule see

A Community Theatre (ACT) presents ARCADIA, by Tom Stoppard, a witty look at relationships, the truth, sex and history. Arcadia is set in the English countryside in two settings; the early 19th century, and the modern age, with the show progressing equally in both timelines. Times: 7:30 PM Feb 5, 6 and 7; 2 PM matinees Feb 7 and 8

Monday, February 9: Open Mic at the Haviland Club, 7 PM

Well-known poet John MacKenzie will be the featured reader at the Haviland Club Open Mic on Monday, Feb. 9. A past recipient of the Award for Distinguished Contribution to the Literary Arts on Prince Edward Island, John MacKenzie has had three collections of his poetry published. He lives in Charlottetown, a grey gull circling the city, scavenging bits of poems from the detritus of lives. Guest host will be Orysia Dawydiak, novelist, children’s author, and non-fiction writer, as well as PEI’s most recent recipient of the Award for Distinguished Contribution to the Literary Arts. She invites those who like to be read to, and/or wish to read from their own writing, to attend. Everyone is welcome. Admission is free or by donation. Readers can sign up at 7 p.m. to read their own poetry or prose, for up to five minutes, to a friendly audience. Please contact with any questions.

Tuesday, February 10, The Book Club at the Wine Bar, 7 PM

The Book Club at the Wine Bar is reading Punishment, by Linden MacIntyre – “marked by unstoppable momentum and a serpentine story line” according to the Globe and Mail. Everyone welcome – just bring your opinions. Welcome all members and guests.
