Just a quick not to let you all know what is happening at the Haviland in the coming weeks.

September 5:

Haviland Club Golf Tournament

Your organizer is Ray: $40 for golf and cart if you only want to play golf, $15 for steak dinner if your interested in dinner only or $55.00 for both.  Golf is being played at Belvedere Golf Course beginning at 1:15. Maximum of 13 teams team, 4 per team. Sign up sheet is on the bulletin board in the bar.  Each member on the team can invite 1 non-member guest to play golf/dinner. Steak dinner will be served at the Haviland Club anywhere between 5-6pm.   Anyone who is looking at having a strip loin dinner, must pay the club their $15.00 prior to.   Cut off date is Sept. 2.

A big THANK YOU to Trish for volunteering to cook the steaks.  Can’t wait to taste it!!  Thanks to Barb for offering to help out in the kitchen and serve..

Volunteers are needed in the kitchen to help cook or serve.  If anyone can rummage up some donated prizes, Ray would be very appreciative.

The Member Social sign up sheet for meals starting September 4, 2015. If anyone wishes to dust off their culinary skills, just sign up, what your serving and the cost: $5.00 / $8.00 / $10.00. The meal you serve should match up with the cost to prepare.

SEPTEMBER 4 ~ Member Social

Now that summer is winding down, and routines are beginning to be established again, we are having our 1st Member Social on Sept 4.   Scott and Scotty are improving their culinary skills since their fishing trip and are serving up cheeseburgers/nacho chips/dessert, all for the rock bottom price of $5.00.  Can’t beat that!!   We are starting back to our regular routines here at the club also.

SEPTEMBER 22 ~ Book Club

Is re-commencing on Sept 22 in the Historic Room at 7 pm.  The books for September’s read are by Kate Atkinson: A God in Ruins, and if your time permits Life After Life.   From October onward, the Book Club will meet every month on the 3rd Tuesday with a new book announced immediately after the previous meeting.   Hope to see everyone back involved and bring a friend!

Thank you to the 41 Members that have already paid their dues!! Early payment of your membership fees is greatly appreciated. It’s really making a difference.  Your names will go into a draw for prizes that will be drawn for on our Harvest Feast Dinner on October 9. Price and tickets will be available soon. Maximum of 50 people will be served.

We now have various methods of payment here at the Club..  We have:

Credit card, Debit, Cash, Cheque, Paypal and e-transfer to make paying your membership or any events more convenient.

Just to let you know…. The harvest dinner will be a squash soup to begin with, pork loin, harvest vegetables as your entrée, and apple crisp with ice cream for dessert..   Price for dinner will be out soon.

We advertised for a new Haviland Club Host / Hostess. Interviews will be held next week so the new person can start in September (sometime!!).

I received the following email from Louise Lalonde to have it circulate to our membership:  see email in italic.

I’m looking for a few men and women who would have stories to tell as part of a group in front of a camera about their wartime memories to do with food during the war.  Some things are well documented such as rationing and victory gardens but what I’m looking for is personal stories about women who became farmers and the sacrifices people made for the war effort.  What it was like on a farm and what it was like in the city.  Heartwarming and funny stories that took place on the home front would be best.   The title of the documentary is Food for Victory and will be used as an educational resource for high school students with the assistance of Canadian Heritage. 

The time commitment would be a couple of hours on a day to be determined and I’m hoping I can rent a room at the Haviland Club to do it.   Thank you for sharing, Louise. 

Here is something else that may interest members is a “Share Club”.  The objective of the club is education and fun – where a group of people gather regularly to share information about their investment experiences and perspectives.  Club members make their own investments.  There are no minutes & members are NOT expected to share personal information unless they chose to. Members of the “Share Club” will determine their interest, needs and common goals.   If there is any interest please contact  Frank at frankpeicananda@gmail.com

I want to personally thank Norma Lee for the beautiful mirror that she brought into the club.  It is located in the has loaned us on a long-term basis her needlepoint and is proudly hung in the Great Room.

If anyone else is looking to declutter items that are is good condition and would suit the heritage of the Club, we are always pleased to take things off your hands.

BAR HOURS ~ now that fall is arriving it’s nice to get back into a routine.

Monday & Wednesday: Bar will open at 4:30 -7:30  If no-one attends the club, we will close earlier.

Tuesday & Thursday:  Bar will open at 4:30 – 11:00.  The bartender will be one of the bridge players

Friday:  Will remain the same  4:00 to 11:00 (pending  the members at the club or if there is a function)

Saturday: 6:30: – 9:30… (The hours will depend on members at the bar or if there is a function)

This may fluctuate a bit, but you will be updated of any changes.. To start the season off, this is what it will be.
