The HAVILAND CLUB NEWSLETTER, December 12, 2017

We had a few problems with out website last week. Things are back under control.

The HAVILAND CLUB NEWSLETTER, December 12, 2017

The HAVILAND CLUB NEWSLETTER

December 12, 2017

Nurture Your Christmas Spirit: Take a drive to Johnston’s River to see our Gary W’s astonishing Christmas display. Tune your car radio to Gary’s Christmas station and see the thousands of lights and lit displays dance to the music! Thousands visit every year, and when you come you’ll see why. It’s free, but if you choose to donate the money goes to Santa’s Angels.

And then go to Canoe Cove, 6452 Route 19, to see the live nativity scene on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Look closely and you’ll see our Calleen G as one of the actors. Admission is by donation, and proceeds support Santa’s Angels and The Children’s Wish Foundation of P.E.I. Oh, and as the Guardian says, “The display will include real animals, so you never know what might happen!”

Coming Activities:

Craft Club Meetings are Postponed Until the New Year

Lots going on, eh? We’ll see everyone in the new year.

Coffee Club, Thursday Morning 10:00 to 11:30: The Hunt for Esther Lowden

Bert and Mark spent last Friday morning at the Provincial Archives sorting through pictures in hope of finding one of Esther Lowden, the remarkable women who built and first owned the home of the Haviland Club. Success was not to be had, as the expression goes, but the search continues. On Thursday, they’ll share the story and ask for advice.

Friday, December 15th, Christmas Potluck With ‘The Prunes’

We’ll all be there this Friday for the Christmas Potluck. Will you? This is our time to come together, to enjoy each other’s company and being together. There will be entertainment by the guitar group The Prunes, featuring Hank Stinson, and perhaps some delightful dramatics. If you haven’t yet, please sign up and let us know what you plan to bring. It’s Christmas, folks. We belong together.

Tuesday December 19, 7 PM – December Book Club

The book for December is Lincoln in the Bardo, by George Saunders, which we hear can be a distinctive read in a new style, so you’d better start now. For January, it will be Angie Thomas’s The Hate U Give.

Coming Together on New Year’s Eve. 7 PM to Midnight+

The Club will open on New Years Eve, with munchies, the fires lit and music in the lounge. We might even have a time of melodic (acoustic) entertainment. Many of us will make this our destination until evening, but you can also drop in before or after going to other activities. Come on by!

New Years Levee: The Haviland Club’s New Years Levee will go all out again this year, with the famous Moose Milk and sweets for the hundreds of expected guests. If you are able to prepare or purchase a plate or tray of sweets to contribute to the effort it would be most appreciated. And if you would like to help serve, clean up or provide tours to those who would like them, that would be welcome, too. Please let Tricia know.
