THE HAVILAND CLUB NEWSLETTER, February 13, 2018

THE HAVILAND CLUB NEWSLETTER
February 13, 2018

This is a Newsletter to the Members of the Haviland Club.
All activities pertain to member-only activities unless otherwise indicated.
We are accepting new members. If interested, please contact thehavilandclub@gmail.com.

Thanks to everyone who helped out with Drop Dead Gorgeous, Murder at the Bootleggers’ Valentines Bash.
Hank and Rowena, of course, for the fun live music, and Hank for his role as Sergeant Sam Steele and solving the mystery; Mark for MC’ing; Terry and Calleen for the spectacular appies, almost a meal in themselves; Cathy, Terry, Wendy, Mark, Hank and Susan for organizing—And ‘Spider Al’, Myron, Harold and Barbi, Cathy, Bruce and Mo for their active roles. The evening was a tremendous success, with a full house (two-thirds members), adults of all ages, dancing, scavenging, problem solving, and lots of fun. See some pictures.

This Friday (Feb 16), Dinner and More:
A few tickets remain for Friday night’s turkey dinner and auction, the spectacular meal prepared and served by Ray, and the evening organized by Carolyn. Tickets are $25; the full turkey dinner with all the fixings including bread pudding for desert and a glass of wine; and guests are asked to bring a new or little used item to be auctioned off. Items to be auctioned by auctioneer Al may be dropped off Friday afternoon. All monies raised to go to the Club’s ongoing upgrades and maintenance. Many thanks to the Pond Committee for the $200 donation!

Friday Sociable: Please come to the Friday Social even if you are not coming to dinner. Fridays are special and not to be missed.

This Sunday (Feb 18), An Important Club Date: This Sunday (the 18th) at 1:30 PM the Haviland Club will say goodbye and wish the very best to our old friend Mac (Norbert) MacDonald, and his wife Joyce, who are moving to Truro to be closer to family. As President in his 80th year, now more than fifteen years ago, Mac oversaw many improvements to the Club, including a badly needed new roof and deck. A steady, friendly, thoughtful hand, and a fine bridge player, Mac will be very much missed. Please drop by to say “aloha” to an old friend. And thanks, Lenny, for organizing!

Other Activities (All events are for members and their guests only unless “Public Event” is indicated.)

Craft Club, Wednesday Evenings, 7 PM

Come for the conversation, the activity, and to produce something beautiful.

Coffee and Conversation, Thursday, 10 AM–11:30
Don Glendenning dropped in last week to talk about things in general and introduce the topics he will be raising this week—and to give us a sense of just what an innovative educational thinker this man is! Come enjoy as stimulating, interesting conversation with one of the country’s leading minds in the field of education.

Haviland Book Club, Tuesday February 20, 7 PM
A Gentleman in Moscow, by Amor Towles, is worth the read. And the conversation at the book club is always worth participating. For March the book is lighter fare, AMACAT, by New Brunswick author Chuck Bowie. The conversation is always fascinating!

Haviland Club Scotch Tasting, February 23, 7 PM (Public Event)
This event is sold out. There’s a waiting list, and we recommend adding your name, if interested.
