Coffee and Conversation with Catherine Hennessey, Thursday, 10 AM–11:30
Lots of fascinating conversations last week with members of Glenn’s Study Abroad Canada class. I’m not sure who learned more, the students or the members who came to greet them. This week Bert has arranged for Charlottetown historian Catherine Hennessey to come talk about the history of the Haviland Club and the neighbourhood. If you haven’t been, please come. All are welcome!

Inspirational Writing Circle, This Week Thursday Evening, 7 PM
We’re getting increasing interest in people participating. Everyone has a book in them, right?

$5 Friday! This Friday (February 2) Bar opens at 4, draws and dinner at 6.
Another Fabulous Five-dollar Friday is planned for February 2, courtesy of Terry Woodhouse! Roast pork, potatoes and veggies with bread pudding for desert—all for only $5! If you’re a member of the Haviland Club (members may bring guests), you’re invited. Please let us know by email if you’re planning to come, so that Terry can make sure there is food for everyone! Just hit reply to this email and say you’ll be here.

Drop Dead Gorgeous, Murder at the Bootleggers’ Valentines Bash, Saturday February 10, 7 PM (Public Event)
The Entertainment Committee (and its Gorgeous subcommittee) is pleased to have so many members coming to this fun event. Come mingle, party dance…and read the clues and solve the mystery before it’s solved for you. If you didn’t receive your personal persona yet, expect it soon. Here’s the scenario: “In the late 1920’s, the Island’s  bootleggers are getting together at the Island’s leading Speakeasy, Drop Dead Gorgeous—to celebrate good times in the liquor business and to show their sweeties some love. There’s music, dancing and revelry…until things go horribly wrong.”

Bring and Buy (And Dine), February 16, 6 PM
Thanks to Carolyn for organizing this new Club fundraiser—and to Ray for offering to cook for 30 people!. $25 gets you a ticket for a turkey dinner with all the fixings, including desert and a glass of wine. Only 30 tickets will be sold! Those coming are asked to bring a new or very little used quality item, which will be auctioned off by auctioneer Alan Curly. Bring something, buy something: “Bring and Buy.”
A sample of two items to “Buy”.

Haviland Book Club, Tuesday February 20, 7 PM
The Club is reading A Gentleman in Moscow, by Amor Towles, which comes highly (highly!) recommended by our friend Cindy. We can’t wait to read it. For March the book is lighter fare, AMACAT, by New Brunswick author Chuck Bowie. The conversation is always fascinating!
