Upcoming Events

Wednesday Craft Night This Week (March 12), 7 PM. (Member)
Bring a project to work on – knitting, crocheting, sewing, etc. Sit and craft while having a chat with your friends. We laugh and learn from each other while having a glass of wine. All are welcome.

Wednesday Night Billiards, 7 PM (Member)
Snooker, anyone? Two great old tables in The Haviland Club downstairs. Billiards Fans, note above, Marie is having five pool cues retipped.

Thursday Coffee and Conversation With Detective Constable Jason MacKinnon, 10-11:30 AM (Public)
This Thursday, Haviland Club member, our guest is Detective Constable Jason MacKinnon, Charlottetown Police Services, who will talk about scams and fraud. Maybe he can tell us why the Club phone will ring four times during his presentation with nobody there! (Order of Canada Member Ray Murphy was unable to attend this week.)

As always, if school’s are closed so is Coffee and Conversation—but from what we here it’s supposed to be plus 7, so no worries?

$7 Friday This Friday, Bar Opens at 4, Dinner following the Draws at 6 Member
Friday is the Ides of March–and we all know what happened on 15 March 44 BC, some 2063 years ago at the Theatre of Pompey in Rome. In celebration, Marie will serve Poulet Etouffé—a New Orleans Classic, chicken “smothered” in flavourful tomato sauce served over rice—and Bloody Ceasars will be the drink of the day. Laurent, who proposed the idea of the drink, tells us the Bloody Caesar is Canada’s Official Cocktail, invented in 1962 (Hey, what about Moose Milk?) Feel free to show up in a toga, but no daggers, please.

ALSO, please remember to let the Club know by Thursday noon if you plan to come so there’s enough for all.

Friday Night Live at the Haviland! This Friday at 7 PM (Public Event)
Friday Night Live at the Haviland returns Friday, March 15, 7-10 p.m. Mike Mooney and Laurie Brinklow host special guest Gypsy Jazz—who are joined by bassist Adam Hill— for an evening of music and, well,… you name it, we’ll try it in the Open Mic portion of the show! All you have to do is sign up at the door, but come early as it’s sure to fill up fast. Admission is $10, $8 for Haviland Club members, and free if you’re performing on the Open Stage.

St. Patrick’s Day Irish Whiskey Tasting, This Saturday, 7 PM (Public Event)  A FEW TICKETS ARE STILL AVAILABLE.
What do you know about Irish whiskey? Why it is considered by some to be smoother than scotch? How did it lose prominence to its Scottish cousin? Gary Ready will host; five Irish Whiskey’s will be presented and tasted; an innovative snack will be served; there’ll be trivia, and by the end of the evening most of us will know more than we do now about the distillation of Irish spirits and how they differ from the Scottish. Tickets are $40 and available at the taproom bar, or by calling 902-894-4421.

The Haviland Club Book Club, Tuesday March 19, 7 PM
We’re reading and will discuss Hag Seed, by Margaret Atwood, which makes delightful use of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Come join a fascinating conversation!  Need to get up to speed, check  link  or review at Link.

Library Upgrade  The Club Library is being renewed with new books. In order to do so we will need donations of more recent titles. Books published in the last 20 years only or recently published. If you have books at home you no longer need or want, please consider donating them to the Haviland Club Library. The books should be clean, no marks or damage to them, no pages missing and no pages marked or written in. Books NOT suitable for this project are encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, school books, textbooks, magazines, periodicals, specialized legal or professional books. Any general books on various topics, fiction, biographies, etc are welcome. They can be soft cover or hard cover. If you have any questions please contact Laurent directly through his email address larrymuffin1@gmail.com or see him at the Club. Laurent is responsible for this project.
